I was so very lucky to do some beautiful invitations, for great friends of mine Scott & Sharleen, early last year. These two are the sweetest couple; laid back, relaxed and they sure know how to throw a good party!! It’s always such a treat to work with good friends and play a part in their special day.
The brief for these invitations was to incorporate the birds of paradise flower. This was going to be a common theme throughout the wedding decorations, so it was a perfect motif to introduce through the invitations. Sharleen also wanted to feature aqua blue, as this was the colour of the bridesmaid dresses. It was going to be a fun, informal wedding, so the invitations needed to set the mood for this.
I absolutely love working on unique designs and I especially love when there is a lot of colour involved! So this was such a fun project. I painted the flowers with watercolour paints, added an illustration over the top with felt tip pen and the rest came together beautifully.
We went with a tri-fold, so all the information could be included on the one card and a small rsvp card for guests to fill in and return. I also drew a custom map, as there were a few key landmarks that needed to be highlighted for guests.
When the wedding day rolled around, Scott and Sharleen also asked me to do their menu’s, place cards and bonbonniere tags. We used the same illustrations across all the wedding day stationery. They made some home-made jam for all their guests (which was delicious!) and Sharleen hand wrote the flavours onto the tags. The stationery looked beautiful on the day, and suited the rustic venue perfectly.
